Nvidia and SK Group announced plans on July 24 for a partnership and AI infrastructure initiative valued at more than $500 billion. The companies described a two-gigawatt AI factory built around Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform and next-generation memory from SK Hynix, with an initial data-center phase expected to begin in 2027.

The headline value covers an initiative and forward plans. The announcement included letters of intent; it was not evidence that the entire amount had already been spent, financed or closed under binding contracts. Reporting should use terms such as announced, planned or covered by the initiative until later filings establish firmer commitments.

Two gigawatts puts power at the center of the project. The figure describes infrastructure demand on a scale that requires generation, transmission, cooling and site planning alongside processors. The source set does not identify every site or provide a completed financing map, so converting the capacity into claims about local impact would require additional documentation.

Memory is another strategic constraint. Pairing Vera Rubin systems with SK Hynix next-generation memory indicates that the initiative is not only a purchase of GPUs. Large AI factories depend on a supply chain that includes high-bandwidth memory, networking and energy, and delays in any one component can affect when planned compute becomes usable.

The initial phase scheduled for 2027 will offer the first evidence that the letters and targets are becoming physical infrastructure. Site permits, power agreements, procurement contracts and company filings will be more reliable milestones than repeatedly treating the full $500 billion-plus figure as a completed investment.
